Most gins start with grain — this one starts with Rio Grande potatoes, the same base as Woody Creek's award-winning vodka, redistilled in Basalt, Colorado's Roaring Fork Valley. Master distiller David Matthews hand-picks local juniper berries and folds in a lineup of 13 botanicals — lemongrass, coriander, cinnamon, angelica, hibiscus, lavender, cranberries, grains of paradise, citrus peel — for a nose of juniper and cinnamon that mellows into fresh orange and lemon. At 94 proof, it holds its own in a classic gin and tonic.
