Gattinara is Nebbiolo's cooler, lesser-known cousin to Barolo — grown on volcanic soil at the foot of the Alps in Alto Piemonte. Travaglini has farmed this DOCG since the 1920s, aging their 100% Nebbiolo in large Slavonian oak for roughly 30 months before it ever reaches the glass. Expect violet and rose petal aromatics giving way to red fruit, spice, and a mineral, iron-tinged finish. Pour it alongside braised short rib or aged Toma cheese.
