Balvenie's malt master Kelsey McKechnie had a hunch: import virgin oak barrels from Kentucky, toast them twice — once at the cooperage there, again at Balvenie's own — and see what happens when this deeply toasted American oak finishes a whisky already aged twelve years in traditional casks. The result leans fruity and sweet, with fudge, candied orange peel, vanilla toffee, and cinnamon spice layered through a rich, malty finish. Pour it neat to let the toasted oak notes unfold slowly.

Sweet, malty aromas of fudge, citrus and oaky vanilla mingle with spicy ginger and warm cinnamon on the nose. The palate initially offers notes of candied orange peel, vanilla toffee and butterscotch, developing slowly into flavours of melted brown sugar, blossom honey and rich oak spice.
