Named for the picuraru — the Puglian shepherd whose slow, patient work mirrors good winemaking — this Primitivo comes from Manduria's red, iron-rich soils near the Salento coast. The De Cerchio family farms organically and ages the wine six months in French and Slavonian oak tonneau, coaxing out ripe dark fruit, a hint of lavender, and notes of leather and black pepper. Full-bodied with structured tannins, it's built for grilled meats or a lamb ragù.
