Matusalem's been guarding this recipe since 1872, when the Alvarez family first distilled it in Cuba — the Gran Reserva 23 is their fourth generation's answer to how far solera aging can go. Barrels are blended across decades in the traditional solera system, landing on a deep mahogany pour with caramel, toasted oak, and banana on the nose, then honey, vanilla, and molasses through a long, spiced finish. Pour it neat to taste every layer, or on the rocks to slow it down.
