Riga Black Balsam has been Latvia's answer to bitter liqueur since 1752, when a Riga apothecary first blended it as a tonic. The recipe—24 botanicals including birch buds, lime blossom, ginger root, and bilberries—gets infused into spirit, aged in oak, and rounded out with honey and caramel before bottling in the brand's signature clay jug.
