Batch 06 is a meticulously crafted small-batch marriage of straight rye whiskies sourced from top-tier rickhouses in Kentucky and Indiana. Aged between 6.9 and 9.3 years and presented at a blistering 123.6 proof, this is a "rye-lover's rye" designed for those who want maximum intensity without sacrificing complexity.
Rare Character is known for its "treasure hunter" approach to sourcing. For Batch 06, the team focused on selecting barrels that emphasized a structural oak backbone and a concentrated rye-spice profile. By blending Indiana’s signature citrus and mint notes with Kentucky’s deeper, earthier caramel and spice, they’ve created a profile that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Nose: An assertive explosion of wintergreen and cracked black pepper, softened by layers of orange oil, dark honey, and toasted rye bread. Subtle undertones of aged leather and rickhouse earth remind you of the decade these barrels spent in the wood.
Palate: Full-bodied and dense. The initial sweetness of caramelized brown sugar and dark maple syrup quickly evolves into a spicy mid-palate of clove, candied ginger, and stone fruit. A heavy backbone of rye grain and dark chocolate provides a rich, chewy texture.
Finish: Long, warming, and persistent. The high proof delivers a "Kentucky hug" characterized by charred oak, lingering pepper spice, and a cooling hint of fresh mint that echoes long after the last sip.
