In 1870, a Turin stockbroker walked into the Carpano shop and asked for his usual vermouth with an extra half-measure of bitter — "punt e mes" in local slang — and named a category. The dry white wine base gets steeped with orange peel, quinine, and wormwood, landing at 16% ABV with honeyed stewed fruit, cinnamon, and tobacco leading into a firm bitter finish. Pour it over ice with a splash of soda, or stir it into a Negroni for extra edge.
