Overview

This one crosses an ocean before it ever reaches your glass. Aged first in Barbados, then finished in small French oak casks by Cognac house Ferrand, Plantation XO Barbados marks Alexandre Gabriel's 20th year as the brand's master blender — a blend of extra-old rums built on long fermentation and pot-and-column distillation. Expect vanilla, roasted coconut, and cocoa layered over caramelized cane, with a long, warm finish. Pour it neat, or let it anchor an Old Fashioned.

A Nice Rum to Pair with Cigar on Special Occasion!

"Over the past two to three years, I've grown to love rum. I first found the "Better Than Captain Morgan" brands that I liked before stepping up to the "Top Shelf" stuff by finding Plantation 20th Anniversary Rum. Friends and family have enjoyed this drink's habit-forming dark smoothness (ice only, please!). For a "Only Special Occasion" rum pleasure drink, the cost is reasonable."

Having Experimented With Many Rums

"My neighbor first introduced me to rum last Christmas when he brought over a bottle of the Gosling family reserve rum. I've tasted at least 10 rums with a price tag that is within my pain threshold of $80. The best wine to enjoy is Plantation 20th! Do not add cola to this, please!"

Incredible Rum, and I'm not even a fan of sweet rum

""This Plantation XO is also on the sweeter side, but has such depth and complexity I really enjoy it, neat, with a few ice cubes, or in an Old Fashioned. It has a nose of warming spices, caramel, orange, and vanilla, with a wonderful flavor palette of toasted coconut, apricots, butterscotch, and oak. Strongly advised!""

EXCESSIVE VANILLA/CARAMEL

"In making my decision, Jess from the Santa Clara store was really helpful. Ron Zacapa has always been a favorite of mine, but Jess offered some options. I choose to give this Plantation rum a try. Shame to blend; definitely a sipping rum. Yet the vanilla/caramel overtones are so intense that this tastes like a flavored rrum. Try it to see if you like it; flavor is in the tongue of the tastier. I'll return to Ron Zacapa."

No one is superior to this.

"This was a thoughtful birthday gift from my wife, who did me proud. It's the rum I prefer. My only problem is that I consume it too quickly, and at $50, it is expensive. Although I've also created wonderful mai tais with it, this is my go-to cocktail for on the rocks. My sole monthly vice would be a dumbed-down bottle that cost $10–$15 less."

Excellent Value for the Money.

""Despite my poor knowledge of rum, here is how I now rank it: The 25-year-old Ron Centenario Rum ($74). 1) Para 48 (Canadian term for the year: 3) The $44 bottle of Plantation 20th Anniversary Rum The Centenario is a step or two above Flor de Cana and Plantation rum, both of which are quite nice. My preferred distillery is Plantation at the Moment.

"This smooth sipper with hints of toasted coconut and marshmallow that I really enjoy. I prefer mine straight up or on the rocks, as is customary. When I want to spoil myself after a challenging day, I always turn to this. As long as they keep their 20th Anniversary Rum available, I will continue to purchase it."

EXCELLENT FLAVOR AT ALL!

"This rum is really incredible! I now have 20 bottles of rum, and this one is head and shoulders above the rest! If yours searching for a nice sipping rum, you can truly enjoy all the many flavor notes in this one!"

Raymond C. (5/5)

Excellent rum, by far

"I think this is the greatest rum I've ever tasted. No need to mix anything; extremely smooth straight. On the nose, there is some banana and caramel. Would undoubtedly make additional purchases."

Very Well Worth the Cost

"Although the price difference between this and Plantation's 5 year is substantial, it is still worth buying. by far my favorite rum. You owe it to yourself to try this if you enjoy anything else that Plantation produces."
