Sambuca usually comes clear — Opal Nera doesn't. Crafted by Fratelli Francoli in Ghemme, Piedmont since 1989, it gets its deep black-violet color the old-fashioned way: from elderberry skins, not dye. Star anise, green anise, orange blossom, cinnamon, clove, and Sicilian lemon round out the blend into something velvety rather than sharp. Serve it icy-cold as a digestivo, or float three coffee beans on top for the classic "con la mosca" pour.
