Overview

More Info

Old Forester 1897 Bottled in Bond is crafted to honor a watershed moment in bourbon history – the U.S. Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897. This expression follows the Bottled in Bond standards that whisky must be aged in a federally bonded warehouse for at least four years, the product of one distillation season, one distiller and from one distillery and bottled at 100 Proof. The concept behind these regulations – the idea of ‘sealed in quality’ – was something Old Forester introduced in 1870, as America’s First Bottled Bourbon.

Although good, the price is not competitive.

"It's a good upgrade in flavor and proof above normal offerings for enthusiasts of regular old Forester. It's not really worth $70, though. It simply cannot compete on pricing with other bottles (Rare Breed, Knob Creek Barrel Select, Michters, Bulleit 10yr, etc. etc. ). The greatest bottle you can likely find for under $100 is OF1920, so you'd be much better off investing the extra $10 to acquire that."

A Mixture Of Flavors

""This one does not let you down; it had a nice balance of sweet and spicy throughout. The nose is a lively fruit and floral with a hint of oak. The dark fruit initially rules the palate with an underlying taste of vanilla; this, too, appears to be built upon a foundation of oak. The flavors linger into the finish that changes into the oak taste with just a slight amount of spicy burn. Because it is 100 proof, it truly does an excellent job of keeping the alcohol from being overpowering, but it sips just as burnt as other cocktails with lower proofs, so use caution. ""

A SOLID Brand's BEST Product to Date

"My current fave Old Forester song is this one. I also bought the "86" and the "1870 Original Batch," which I occasionally use in my barrel-aged old fashioned (Very delicious as well, although greener and on the gassy side IMO). Looking forward to sampling the "1910" when it re-enters the market in January 2020. . . This is far better than my two previous in-brand options. I won't waste your time with any specifics as "1897" is great and the description above on the TW site seems accurate to me. Leave a bottle on the shelf for me, please! The fact that I have over 30 bourbons, ryes, and whiskeys in my home bar makes this without a doubt one of my all-time favorites (not just from this company). They are all of the highest caliber. A+ for this"

The Whiskey Row Series' Unsung Gem

"It tastes like vanilla with a tiny bit of coffee and some kind of fruit I can't pin down (my palate isn't that great yet), but with an ice cube I got a maple syrup flavor I wasn't expecting. "Yes, the 1920 is amazing and everyone loves it. But, you shouldn't sleep on this one at all. At 100 proof it's way more accessible than its big brother, but still provides a kick. I enjoy exploring, but this is one of my favorites. I'll always buy this again. Although it is too pricey to use on a daily basis, the bottle shouldn't be left to collect dust. Buy it. Take a sip. Don't purchase any more of it so I can continue to do it whenever I want."

Perhaps even surpassing Papi VW

"The top five bourbons I've ever enjoyed include this one. All of the Forrester bourbons are excellent, but the "Bottled in Bond 100 proof" is the greatest and might even surpass Papi VW in quality. ??"

Strong Option

"Every time I drink this, I see a warm cinnamon roll with rich vanilla frosting. tend to favor offerings with a greater proof level, but this is irreversible. Delicious!"

A Little Uncertain

"Due to my recent success in discovering several excellent bourbons, my search brought me to this brand and specifically to this 1897. long-standing brand, excellent customer feedback. All things considered, I don't know whether it's just me, but I didn't find this to be really noteworthy. Yes, it's hot at first and has a kick at the end, but in comparison to other findings, it lacked "flavor. " I'll give it a shot again and a few more times after that in the hopes of developing a taste for it. I've tasted a few other labels in the same price and proof range that my taste buds immediately responded to, so I'm not saying skip it. I suppose each to his own. Since this is only my first taste, it would be unfair to award it a rating of less than four stars. If anything alters, I'll publish once more. Enjoy!"

Fantastic Whisky

"Excellent taste and value for money. Great in an old fashioned, really smooth served neat. Repurchase without a doubt."

Enchanting and Fluid

"Lovely and seamless. This is great as an old fashioned or as a sipper. I do not suggest combining this with beverages like ginger ale or coke. perfectly supports itself on its own."

Ashanti2317 (5/5)

Decent but Not Outstanding

"A smooth and sophisticated bourbon, but not nearly as strong or impressive as the 1910 or 1920. Any of those would be preferred over this one, in my opinion."
