Mossburn are cask experimenters, and this Island Blended Malt is a successful example of their excellent work. Initially blended from American oak barrels of whisky from the Scottish islands, the resulting whisky was then filled into ex-bourbon barrels with toasted, virgin European-oak cask heads (aka 'Mossburn Cask Bill #1'), adding an extra kick of spice.
Tasting notes
Nose: Aromatic and balanced, nice sweet peat directly, integrated with fine herbs, e.g. thyme, fennel, rosemary, a little vanilla and Earl Gray.
Taste: Green apple surprising, then nice, warm peat, but not too overloading, rosemary, oregano, thyme, a few more green tones, green paprika, tree resin, earl gray, lemon peel , sweet cereal
Finish: Oak, Earl Gray, fine peat, tick grain, chamomile, medium length
