Argentine winemakers Andrea Mufatto and Gerardo Michelini went looking for old vines in Spain's Bierzo and found them here. A Merced is 100% Mencia from the El Canto vineyard, 80-year-old bush vines rooted in slate and quartz at 600 meters. Whole clusters are foot-crushed, fermented with native yeast, and aged a year in old French oak. Expect crushed red cherry, wild berry, florals, and a stony, mineral streak with fine-grained tannins. Pour it with roast lamb or grilled mushrooms.
