A pinot noir grown on the ranch actor Fred MacMurray once farmed — land turned into vineyard in the mid-1990s and now one of the Russian River Valley's most respected pinot sites. The wine spends eight months in French and American oak, mostly used barrels, built for silk rather than heft. Expect lavender and boysenberry up front, dark cherry and pomegranate underneath. Pour it with roast duck or a mushroom risotto, where its earthy edge has something to talk to.
