Lieb Family has been coaxing merlot from the sandy loam of Long Island's North Fork since 1992, where breezes off the Peconic Bay stretch the growing season. Their estate merlot spends time in Hungarian oak, emerging with a deep garnet color, a nose of mulberry and cocoa, and a palate of black cherry, plum, and cedar smoothed by soft, round tannins. Pour it alongside roasted duck or a mushroom risotto for a North Fork evening in.
