Kaiyo Mizunara Oak Cask Strength Japanese Whisky is matured in the finest Mizunura oak casks. The casks are hand made due to the Mizunura oaks delicate wood grain.

Tasting notes

Nose: Floral, white wine, sawdust, fresh peaches, hint of maple syrup, pears, perfumy, coconut, bakery aromas.

Taste: Juicy pear, nutmeg, vanilla, a sweet and salty vibe, hints of oak in the back, jazz apples, tropical notes emerge over time.

Finish: More orchard fruits, minty, some delicate oak, but not as much as expected, a slight earthiness, sea air, clove, honey.

"After tasting a fantastic Mizunara Oak aged whiskey from Bainbridge Organic Distillers, I decided to get this. I was quite eager to try this and share it with a couple of my close friends who enjoy drinking whisky. Unfortunately, this bottle was quite subpar. Unique to Mizunara, the nose has a nuttiness and faint spice that is really intriguing. However, the flavor is unremarkable, and after tasting the whiskey, I was unable to identify any distinguishing qualities. Since there is only the nose to begin with, I won't even bother trying to explain the finish because it is obvious that there isn't one. I've discovered from learning about Mizunara Oak that it takes a very long period to age whisky in this type of oak for the flavor to emerge. I'm going to say that this whisky hasn't aged very long at all, which is evident in its total lack of flavor and character. Additionally, the distiller's website and label are very ambiguous, which I suppose is done on purpose to conceal subpar or hastily produced goods for the consumer. This whisky is of subpar quality but is being marketed at a high price only because Mizunara Oak is so rare and special. The whisky has been aged long enough to produce its scent, but not its distinctive flavor or finish from the wood. My best assumption is that whisky has color added to make it appear aged. Travesty."
