The 1776 name traces back to Kentucky's oldest whiskey brand, revived in 2012 by the Pepper family label. This is the barrel-proof cut: the same high-rye bourbon as the 100-proof version, only bottled straight from the cask and left non-chill-filtered. A mash of 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley pushes bourbon sweetness against real rye spice, with vanilla, honey, cloves and chocolate rounding it out. Pour it over a big cube, or build it into an Old Fashioned.
Tasting notes
Sweet on the palate. Nutty, both peanuts and almonds. Much like peanut brittle with caramel and burnt sugar notes. More subtle notes of cherry and oak.
Non Chill-Filtered, mash-bill of over 38% Rye. This is the same exact whiskey as in the standard award winning 100 proof version, only straight from the barrel.
