Some bottles come with a story: J. Lohr created its Signature Cabernet to mark founder Jerry Lohr's 80th birthday, and it sits at the top of the winery's red lineup. Grown on western Paso Robles hillsides where lime-laden calcareous soils trace an ancient uplifted seabed, the hand-harvested fruit ages around 20 months in French oak. Expect cassis, a whiff of conifer forest, ripe red fruit, and a long, layered finish. Decant, then pour alongside a seared ribeye.
