Glenmorangie's Dr. Bill Lumsden dreamed this one up while snowed in at home, chasing the feeling of firelight against falling snow. The result: a 13-year-old Highland single malt finished in Sicilian Marsala casks after its bourbon-cask maturation, built for cold nights. Expect a peppery opening giving way to cocoa, toasted Brazil nut, and demerara sweetness, with a long, spiced finish of clove, ginger, and cinnamon. Bottled at 46% ABV. Pour it neat by the fire, or over one big cube to slow the spice down.
Tasting notes
Aroma: Curious and slightly sharp, with the classic Marsala top-note of slightly oxidised fruits. Hints of orange toffee intermingles with a fragrant top note of lavender honey and sweet rose.
Taste: A juicy viscous, but slightly peppery mouthfeel, leads in to a burst of sweet, nutty flavours – coco powder, red pepper, brazil nut toffee and sweet barley malt.
Finish: Sweet demerara sugar and a long lingering spicy aftertaste of clove, ginger and cinnamon.
