Massenez has been distilling in Alsace's Vallée de Villé since the 1870s, and their cassis is built the traditional way: ripe blackcurrants pressed for juice, sweetened, and rounded out with a touch of blackcurrant eau-de-vie. The result pours deep, bluish-ruby and smells purely of fruit — on the palate it's soft and jammy up front, with a streak of tartness at the finish. Stir a spoonful into sparkling wine, or drizzle it over vanilla ice cream.
