El Mexicano's Añejo comes from the same Bañuelos family that co-founded Cazadores, working out of their Arandas Highlands hacienda (NOM 1588) at 6,600 feet. The agave is hand-harvested at a minimum of six years old, then rested 14 to 16 months in a mix of American and French oak. Expect orange marmalade and citrus peel up front, giving way to cooked agave, roasted pineapple, and cocoa nibs on the palate. Pour it neat, or alongside a square of dark chocolate.
Tasting notes
Amber yellow color, with golden flashes and a straw yellow edge.
Aroma
On the first nose, cooked agave and baking spices are present (clove, cinnamon, cardamom, white pepper); tobacco, plum, citrus in syrup, contributed by the French barrel; vanilla, maple, toasted coconut, cocoa provided by the American oak. Great depth of aroma and balance between the agave and the woods.
Sabor
Medium-high alcoholic attack, confirming the nose to cocoa, coffee, maple, with a very long finish.
