Here's a Southern French red with a California pedigree: Department 66 comes from Dave Phinney, the winemaker behind Orin Swift, who planted roots among the old vines of Maury in the Roussillon. Pharaon is his prestige bottling, a Grenache-Syrah blend grown on black schist soils under the fierce Tramontane wind, then aged in French oak. Expect a full-bodied pour with dark fruit, spice, and a mineral streak. Decant it and pour alongside grilled lamb or a peppery stew.
