Islay peat doesn't usually go this dark. Bowmore earns the "Darkest" name from years spent finishing in European oak Oloroso sherry casks, which pull the whisky toward a deep, crimson-tinged hue. After maturing in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, it picks up moist Corinth raisins, sweet dates, dark chocolate and cinnamon, all wrapped in the distillery's signature coastal smoke. Bottled at 43% ABV. Pour it neat with a single drop of water and let the sherry and peat unfold slowly.
Tasting notes
Nose: Dark and punchy. Sherry notes, juicy Corinth raisins. Spices. Creamy, mochaccino, sweet dates.
Palate: Rich, woody, pine oil. Syrupy. Lovely, creamy toffee and malt. Smoky.
Finish: Spicy, toffee, sherry, barley.
