At the corner of Clark Avenue and Telephone Road in Santa Maria Valley sits a 52-year-old vineyard, own-rooted to the rare Martini clone and planted in 1972. Belle Glos winemaker Joe Wagner destems the fruit, gives it a 14-day cold soak, then ferments in stainless steel before aging in French oak. The result is a deep ruby Pinot Noir with dark cherry, boysenberry, and cocoa on the nose, baked blackberry and clove on the palate. Pour it with roasted duck or mushroom risotto.
