Barbicaia Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a 100% Sangiovese (locally called Prugnolo Gentile) from a small family estate on a southwest-facing hillside in Montepulciano, Tuscany. Owner Marco Barbi hand-harvests from vines planted on limestone-clay soil, ferments spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, then ages the wine 18-20 months in French oak before bottling. Expect ruby-red color with notes of red fruit, tobacco, vanilla, and licorice, backed by firm tannin and bright acidity. Pour it alongside roasted meats, stews, or aged cheese.
