Aberlour's Speyside soul shows its full range at 18 years. This Double Cask Matured single malt splits its life between American oak that once held bourbon and Spanish oak seasoned with Oloroso sherry, and the marriage is something special. Look for toffee and butterscotch on the nose, then soft apricot, vanilla cream, red fruit, and a whisper of old leather and tobacco across the palate, all trailing into a long, balanced finish. Bottled at 43%. Pour it neat, give it a little air, and settle in.
Tasting notes
Nose: Rich and complex notes of toffee and butterscotch combine with ripe peach and bitter orange
Palate: Perfect structure. Initial notes of soft apricot and cream are offset by developing flavours of blackcurrant jam and sweet oak with a touch of honey
Finish: Very long and balanced, progresses from crème brûlée to a gentle oak flourish
