The Rye I Usually Reach For

"The vanilla and caramel flavors dominate for me, with a beautiful lengthy spicy finish. It's 100% rye and 100 proof, but not terribly hot, so I tend to keep it to myself ;-) and use other less expensive decent ryes for creating party cocktails. Oh, and just to clear up any confusion, this 10 year was first distilled and aged in Alberta, Canada, and then it was aged further and was bottled at the WhistlePig Farm in Vermont."

Not Suitable for the Weak of Heart

"This is the whiskey I prefer most to "knock your brains out"! Lemongrass, honey, and smokey vanilla in the nose set the stage for a spicy black pepper, honey, vanilla, and caramel tongue that persist for at least 30 seconds in the aftertaste. The aroma is so potent and intense that you can actually smell it from one foot away. Hard to drink, simple to adore. . ."

"I can't believe everything you read. This one let me down, to be honest. Comes across as bitter immediately away and leaves a taste in my mouth. not yet defined. Not caramel, oak, or anything sweet. Strange flavor. Spicy and a little hotter than I want, but since it's rye, I suppose I should anticipate the heat and spice. If someone offered it to me, would I say no? No. No, I wouldn't go out of my way to get it."

"Last weekend, I had some for the first time, and I was overjoyed. I expected a lot because I was aware of the cost. This worked well over ice because I appreciate smooth whiskeys with notes of vanilla, bread, caramel, and nuts. The only drawback was reaching the bottom of the bottle, which was really simple to drink. As a regular drinker, I would never purchase something at this price bracket, but for a special event, I'd be all in. Excellent whiskey."
