Named for William Butler Saffell, a Kentucky distiller who ran his own operation near present-day Wild Turkey starting in 1889, this bourbon revives a name that vanished after Prohibition. Wild Turkey master distiller Eddie Russell blends 6-, 8-, 10-, and 12-year straight bourbons matured in heavy alligator-char barrels, bottled non-chill filtered at 107 proof. Expect caramel, vanilla, oak, and baking spice building into a long, warming finish. Pour it neat or with one large cube.
Tasting notes
Aroma: Sweet vanilla, aged wood, black pepper, and cream soda.
Palate: fresh cut oak, vanilla extract, mown hay, subtle smoke.
Finish: It's sweet, smokey, oaky, peppery. It's everything hardcore wt fans love about their distillate.
