The Prideful Goat - 12 Year Old Rye Whiskey Finished in American Whiskey Casks

5 Years ago The Prideful Goat sourced some 7 year old Canadian rye whiskey from Alberta. It didn't have much barrel influence due to the mild aging environment in Canada, so we rebarreled all of it in ex-American whiskey casks. 70% Tennessee Whiskey, 25% Giant Texas Bourbon, and 5% MGP rye casks were used to age in the aggressive Houston Texas environment. After 5 years we ended up with a beautiful 12 year old whiskey that has plenty of color, barrel flavors, and a balanced palate. The underlying flavor is a familiar Canadian rye spice with a hint of pine, but the top notes are much sweeter. A ton of brown sugar and a sweet cereal note that is reminiscent of Captain Crunch. There is a fruit note that is similar to a blueberry muffin with a cinnamon crumble. At 100 proof it is extremely approachable and goes down dangerously easy. This offering is one of the only releases with this high age statement at this affordable price in years! Enjoy!
