Venezuela's oldest rum house, Hacienda Santa Teresa in the Aragua valley, gives its signature 1796 Solera rum an unusual final step: coffee beans are cold-brewed with young rum instead of water, then rest six months in American white oak before the finished rum spends three more months in those same barrels. The result carries fresh-brewed coffee, cacao nibs, toasted almond, and charred oak through a smooth, tobacco-tinged finish. Pour it neat, over ice, or into an Old Fashioned or Espresso Martini for something genuinely different from the usual aged rum.
