Roulette - Straight Rye
This 4+ year old rye from MGP in Indiana comes to us from Dave Schmier, who cofounded Redemption Whiskey back in the day. It boasts a high-rye mashbill (95% rye/5% barley) - think Old Overholt/Rittenhouse, but spicier, as those are generally only 51-60% rye in the mashbill.
The combination of flavor, quality, and pricepoint pin it as a great grab for daily drinking. Warm notes of cherry cordial open the show, spreading across the palate where they are joined by hints of spicy clove, caraway, and cracked black pepper. At 100 proof, this remains smooth enough to sip, but also makes a fabulous choice to elevate a classic cocktail.
Rich nose of orange marmalade, fresh thyme, and a hint of clove leads to a full and waxy mid-palate that transitions with pleasant tannin to a finish of black pepper, rosemary, and browned butter
