Named for Masataka Taketsuru, the Japanese distiller who trained in Scotland before founding Nikka, this pure malt blends casks from the Yoichi and Miyagikyo distilleries into something distinctly its own. Expect a complex nose of malt, citrus, and a whisper of peat, giving way to a round palate of sweet spice, cereal, and candied fruit that lingers into a long, smooth finish. It took the World Whiskies Awards' top honor for blended malt. Pour it neat or over ice alongside aged cheese or grilled seafood.
Tasting notes
Nose: Clean and bright, with red fruit bursting out of the glass and glazed fruit-tart sweetness.
Palate: Soft and fruity with spicy clove appearing along with a cherry-menthol note.
Finish: The rich fruit lingers.
