New Zealand isn't exactly whisky country — yet. Pōkeno, tucked into the misty Waikato valley near Auckland, is quietly becoming the exception, and this is their flagship pour. Origin is built from locally grown barley, taken slow through fermentation and distillation, then rested only in first-fill bourbon casks. The result is bright and generous: grapefruit and honey up front, creamy toffee underneath, finishing long. Bottled at 43% ABV. Pour it neat to let the citrus and toffee unfold, or lengthen it with soda for something lighter.
Tasting notes
It is an incredibly sweet and round whisky, with beautiful citrus, honey, grapefruit and creamy toffee notes, giving way to a complex and lingering finish.
