Overview

Building on its know-how, in 2001 Pernod launched a new anise spirit: Pernod with absinthe plant extracts. Inspired by the original recipe that made a name for the House of Pernod in the 19th century, this sugar-free anise spirit with an alcohol content of 68° has a thuyone content in conformity with the legislation in force. A unique flavour, to relive the Paris of La Belle Epoque.

★ ★ ★ ☆ ☆ 3/5 AI Rating

Reviewers on Difford's Guide and absinthe forums consider Pernod a recognizable, accessible anise-forward absinthe — historically significant as the original brand but considered middle-tier today. Drinkers say it's a decent louche performer for cocktails and fountain service.

Great Approachable Anise Liqueur

"Has a potent licorice aroma and tastes of sweet anise/fennel, warm but smooth finish. It's a really nice affordable and approachable entry to anise liqueurs for making classic cocktails, without breaking the bank for a genuine absinthe (which some can find too intense)."

I cherish Pernod!

""I really like Pernod! I wasn't sure I would. I love the flavor and it has substantially fewer calories than wine. I've also found a couple of recipes that call for it. Plus, my curbside pick up was very prompt and friendly. ""

Pleasant anise (licorice) flavor

""This is sometimes hard to find but well worth the search. I pour this if I'm not in the mood for the drama of absinthe (slowly dripping ice water over a sugar cube) but want a cloudy flavorful drink. I prefer this brand of Pastis over other brands. ""

Nice Stuff

"This is the benchmark for absinthe liqueurs. It bothers me that my "go to" brands are never prominently displayed. When I seek assistance, associates try to pawn off obscure brands with bigger markups for Total Wine. Poor business practice."

Not Sure Why This Is Here, But. .

""There are two types of Pernod: absinthe and Pastis. This is the pastis: NOT THE ABSINTHE. Prior to prohibition, Pernod made absinthe, but they switched to pastis afterwards. My opinion is that the pastis is similar to the absinthe with the exception of the artemisia absinthium. This stuff is OK if you are curious, but not willing to take the plunge. Also, while Pernod was THE brand for absinthe during the fin de siècle, golden age of absinthe--it isn't these days. ""

BEST OFFERED ABSINTHE

"Best Absinthe offered from Tipxy as of this date. Best all around. Not sure how other Absinthe products they offer won this or that award. This, so far, is the gold standard for Absinthe offered in this store. I'll update it as needed."

Use Of Pernod When Cooking.

"We have been using Pernod for several years when cooking shell fish such as Muscles, Clams etc. It gives just a slight ambience to the food, so we usually buy a couple of bottles a year."

Hammon B. (5/5)

I could repeat that!

"As a person with no prior experience with Absinthe, I think this is so delicious. I'll definitely buy this again and find more ways to enjoy this soon."
