Owney's Rum
Owney’s Rum isn’t your typical "vacation in a bottle" Caribbean spirit. This is a gritty, sophisticated, and uncompromisingly bold New York City Rum. Distilled in the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn, it’s a tribute to the Prohibition-era "rum-runners" and the legendary bootlegger who inspired the name: Owney Madden.
Created by Bridget Firtle at The Noble Experiment NYC, Owney’s was born from a desire to bring rum production back to the city that once thrived on it. This is a 100% molasses-based white rum that skips the additives, sugars, and coloring found in mass-market brands. It’s a "grain-to-glass" (or rather, "molasses-to-glass") spirit that values character over conformity.
Nose: A complex greeting of tropical banana, earthy molasses, and a distinct mineral crispness (thanks to that NYC water).
Palate: Full-bodied and surprisingly "chewy." You’ll find notes of butterscotch and vanilla bean, balanced by a sophisticated vegetal funk and a hint of white pepper.
Finish: Clean, dry, and slightly grassy, with a lingering sweetness of burnt sugar that stays on the tongue without feeling syrupy.
