Mount Gay split one rum in two to make a point: pour identical Barbados rum, same fermentation, same barrels, through a copper pot still versus their rare copper column (Coffey) still, and the results diverge completely. The pot rum turns vinous and funky, with coconut, banana and chocolate into a long finish; the column rum stays light and mellow, all toffee, almond and warm oak. Both land at 43% ABV. Pour them side by side neat, or shake one into a Mai Tai.
