Overview

"Brilliant golden amber in colour, Eclipse bears a luxuriously complex aroma whose rich, seamless harmony is interwoven with distinctive floral and fruity notes of apricot and banana, with hints of vanilla and a subtle smokiness imparted by the Kentucky oak barrels in which the rum is patiently aged."

Exceptionally Good, but Not the Dominant Flavor

""I'd probably give this a 3. 8 out of 5 rating. " It's a high-quality rum, but the flavor intensity isn't that strong; it straddles the line between being suitable for sipping neat and being solely suitable for mixing.  This is not one of those "fake" rums that are so typical with the lower price levels, but it is still a good value for the money."

The One And Only Rum That Can Make An Anita Bryant!

"In the 1980s, Sgt. Preston's in Minneapolis was a highly well-liked bar. The Anita Bryant, a highly well-liked beverage, was offered on the menu. Back then, Anita was a very outspoken opponent of homosexuality as well as a Florida orange juice spokesperson. Anita Bryants are made with Mount GAY rum and freshly squeezed orange juice. Wonderful rum with a distinctive, excellent flavor."

Discovered A Fantastic Rum

"Never heard of it before, but now that I have, I'm pleased I did. I bought some at Tipxy, and it's wonderful for making Rum and Coke. This will be the third rum in my list of the top three. I like Mount Gay Eclipse and Bacardi Silver Plantation five year aged. Each one is great with a rum and coke. Enjoy. I firmly advise"

A Top-Notch Rum to Drink

"Since I've been drinking Mount Gay Eclipse for a while, it's been my go-to choice for a lovely, smooth rum. I usually serve it neat, but occasionally I'll add a few ice cubes. complements a nice cigar really well. Buy Bacardi if you want rum and coke."

— Castiglione (5/5)

Optimum rum without spices

"No other rum I've found even comes close to matching this one. Since at least 15 years ago, I've found that if the rum isn't Mount Gay Barbados Eclipse, I can't drink it. It's always a wonderful treat, whether it's with coke, soda, or straight up. This has a lot of flavor and body, but it isn't spiced to cover up subpar age and distillation; instead, it stands nicely on its own. You won't be sorry if you give it a try."

— Shudune V. (5/5)

An affordable middle-ramge rum

"A decent, reasonably priced middle of the road rum. Although simple, it is balanced. a touch weak in taste and power. I incorporate Tiki using it. Although it doesn't strike out as particularly rich or sophisticated, it tastes alright and doesn't overshadow the beverage."

— Woong C. (3/5)

The Originator of Rum

"The world's best rum is unquestionably this one! Unspiced Mount Gay Rum is, in my opinion, a lovely product from a lovely island. With this Rum, the terms "clean" and "pure" spring to mind. Stephan K. is accurate; the water used to brew this rum is filtered through the coral bedrock of the island and originates from natural springs that produce cool, nearly clean water. Additionally, if you look attentively on their bottles, you will notice the date 1703, which is the earliest time they can demonstrate that rum was being made on the Island. The Extra Old and the New Black, which was newly launched, are my favorites. I promise you won't regret giving it a try."

— Umemoto C. (5/5)

Suitable Middle-Range Offering

"Nice, mid-range rum for mixing when the rum needs to stand up to the mix. used it to make daiquiris and rum punches. Although not nearly as full-bodied as something like Appleton Estates 8 year, Baicardi works well when used with drinks like Pina Coladas."

— Ygrainer K. (4/5)

Navy's Choice

"I discovered Mount Gay was the favorite local rum when sailing the Caribbean, and for good cause; ever then, I've been sipping it with coke, on the rocks, or in a cocktail with local juices.  Highly advisable."

— Gualtiera B. (5/5)

Q&A

Tipxy AI Overview

What people across the internet are saying
★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ 4/5 AI Rating

Reddit r/rum and reviewers consistently treat Mount Gay Eclipse as a dependable Barbados workhorse and entry into proper rum drinking. Drinkers praise the balanced banana, vanilla, almond, and light spice profile—great for daiquiris, rum punches, and mai tais. From the world's oldest commercial rum distillery (1703), it's the everyday Bajan classic at a fair price.
