With its roots in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania, Michter's is a cornerstone of the USA's distilling history. Beautifully rich and spicy, this sour-mash whiskey from the brand (now based in Kentucky) has an abundance of cinnamon, butter and nutty notes, along with a hint of black pepper to freshen things up. Delicious.
Tasting notes
Right off the crack of the aromatic bat, there's a high concentration of caramel corn, corn meal and breakfast cereal flakes: Secondary sniffs encounter subtle notes of dried berries, citrus zest, maple and vanilla bean.
Entry is silky smooth, beany (vanilla, cocoa) and brown sugar-like: the midpalate is creamed corn sweet, caramel-like and filled with baking spices, mostly all-spice, clove and nutmeg.
Finishes long, grainy sweet and nougaty. Another winner from Michter's.
