First offered in May 2015, this is a limited edition from Michter's and one of a few in the range to be labelled as a 'barrel strength' release and received huge praise including 99 points from The Tasting Panel. The whiskey is matured in flame charred new American oak barrels, typically yielding ABVs between 54-56%.

"The items from Michter are excellent. I've experienced their bourbon, which is an extremely strong whiskey made from sour mash. On the scent, I detect brown sugar and oak, which is similar to Maker's Mark but ends with a hint of spice. It doesn't even truly smell like the typical ryes like Rittenhouse or Bulleit. Like most Rye Whiskey, you can really taste the oak and spice in the flavor, yet it doesn't harm you in any way."

"If I hadn't visited the distillery and sampled a dram, I wouldn't have purchased this bottle. I've tasted rye whiskey before, but I didn't care for it because it had undertones of leather and grass. But this bottle stands out since there isn't even a whiff of leather or grass in it. The tastes of vanilla, caramel, and wood are harmoniously combined without overpowering one another. I can smell crème brûlée on the nose. The absence of alcohol burn on the nose or palate is the most noticeable feature. That must have something to do with decreasing the entry proof prior to age, I suppose. For me, the finish is rather lengthy and has a light sweetness."

"This rye will definitely appeal to you. To my palate, it tastes a lot like bourbon but is slightly spicer. I was anticipating more in the form of caraway or dill notes, but they aren't really there. If you're unsure whether you want to risk a particularly harsh rye, this easy-drinking kind can be a decent starting point. I would have rated it three and a half stars if I could. But 3 stars would be too little for it since it drinks to easily, so I was generous even tough I think 4 stars is a touch too much. Hey, the rating system wasn't created by me:-)."
