Overview

More Info

The first bourbon in our wood-finishing series, Maker's Mark 46® was created by Bill Samuels, Jr., to amplify the flavors he loves in Maker's Mark®. The innovative wood-stave-finishing process starts with fully matured Maker's Mark® at cask strength. We then insert 10 seared virgin French oak staves into the barrel and finish it for nine weeks in our limestone cellar. The result is Maker's Mark 46: bolder and more complex, but without the bitterness typical of longer-aged whiskies.

Tasting notes

Aroma: Hints of wood staves, caramel and sweetness

The greatest, simply!

"A fine whisky for sipping. The 46 can be enjoyed on a daily basis or as a unique time memorable. This more classically styled whisky can compete with any other because it lacks a sugary aftertaste. Just a simple pour into your glass—no pebbles, no mix. Allow it to rest in your mouth, savor the flavor, and then feel your insides warm up. A 94 proof whisky drinks like it is 80, which is extremely exceptional."

Simply purchase ordinary Maker's Mark

"As I sipped this, I noticed how much the original Maker's Mark tasted like this. When I read the bottle's back, I found it was exactly the same Maker's Mark; the only difference was that they had aged it for a bit longer with 10 French oak staves. It has a somewhat higher ABV and a slightly woodier flavor. Worth the additional cost? No. Simply purchase Maker's Mark normal."

A Significant Advance

"Even while I enjoy the original Makers Mark, I believe Makers 46 to be superior. It has more richness, smoothness, and fragrance. This whiskey is perfect for enjoying on alone evenings when you want something special to keep you company. This superbly produced bourbon will be enjoyed by drinkers of whiskeys like Eagle Rare, Woodford Reserve, and others. Highly suggested."

Purchase of a nice side curve of bourbon

"I recently made a Curve Side Purchase and was quite happy with the website and the nearly instantaneous message letting me know that my order was prepared. The delivery person arrived with my order less than five minutes after I arrived to pick it up. The only thing I can say is that the bottle of bourbon I bought was properly wrapped in paper and placed inside a plastic bag. Choose between the two options if you want to reduce trash."

Makes a Fantastic Old Fashioned.

"Maker's Mark 46 is my preferred ingredient for an Old Fashioned. I have a large collection of single malts and bourbons, but my "go to" for an Old Fashioned is always either the 46 or a special edition Makers Mark. Having a drink straight on the beach as the sun sets is also extremely pleasant."

Fantastic Whisky

"I've always loved Maker's Mark and love wheated bourbon in general. Stave Profile No. 46 proofs out at a slightly higher 94% and provides an extra warm, rich layer of flavor thanks to the additional ageing process employing French Oak staves in a second barreling. a great whisky that is reasonably priced."

Piper34 (5/5)

Pleasantly Surprised

"For drinking neat, I favor the lower proofs. Even though I don't like Makers Mark, this was incredibly excellent! This is the more affordable option, and when I had it and Longbranch side by side, I found that I loved them both equally."

GlamourBottle (5/5)

One of my top picks for whiskey cocktails.

"Avoid icing it, but if you must, use huge cubes to prevent the ice from melting and tainting the exquisite flavor of 46. And every bar need frequent MM. It is a necessary ingredient for many of my favorite drinks."

MayerT (5/5)

The highest-quality whiskey you can purchase at this price is

"The finest whiskey you can get for this money. I prefer to serve it neatly and ice cold (I place four jiggers in a small plastic container and put it in the freezer). I have a bottle of Maker's Mark 46 in my house at all times."

Among the Top Values

"The wine begins out with some youthful characteristics before bursting into intense cherry red and vanilla flavors. The wine finishes medium with the same flavors before adding more barrel notes to complete the flavor profile."
