Māhealani takes its name from the fourth night of the full moon — in Hawaiian tradition, a lucky time for fishing, planting, and, Ko'olau figured, distilling too. This 100-proof moonshine is a nod to Oahu's East Side Prohibition days, when sugar-based hooch kept the island's thirst quenched.
