Tasting notes

The delicate flavor of American oak – vanilla, citrus and light oak – rises in prominence as the traditional Macallan European oak character of dried fruit, sherry and wood spice affords a familiar back drop.

The result is a fresh and approachable style of Macallan, rich in flavor, honeyed and indulgent, with a full, viscous mouth feel.
Suitable for all occasions, Double Cask 12 years old will appeal to existing and new Macallan drinkers alike.

It truly is that excellent.

"I enjoy rye and bourbon a lot. I recently made the decision to try scotch. My father, a hefty scotch consumer, advised me to buy this bottle. Sincerely, I wasn't a big fan of it at first. For me, it was a little too soft. I put the bottle away for a few weeks, then when I opened it again, WOW! I noticed something there that I had previously missed. Smooth and lovely best describe it. Excellent nose and finish. I found it hard to believe my initial disappointment. You'll really like this if you like bourbons like Angels Envy."

Cost-Prohibitive for What It Is

"It's a good scotch, but from what i've read, the price has risen significantly in recent years, which makes me less likely to repurchase it. Nothing in this place is repulsive or overpowering enough to turn someone away. however, it consumes like a $50 bottle. not $90. I can imagine myself buying this frequently and sipping it daily when I'm fifty."

Excellent introductory Scotch. . . smooth and flavorful

"I wanted to find another single malt for diversity as I have been drinking 12 year old Aberlour, which is still a favorite. For my tastes, the 12 year old Macallan Double Cask is ideal. (remembering smell and taste are subjective). This whisky is flavorful and smooth with barely any bite. Scotch on the rocks is how I prefer to drink it, and doing so seems to bring out the vanilla, cinnamon, and buttery caramel flavors. I like that it isn't peaty as well. I would recommend this scotch to someone who has never tried a single malt. Despite being slightly more expensive, it offers excellent value for the services it provides."

Incredible Aroma, But Too Sweet

""On the 12, the scent is really gorgeous, with hazelnut, honey, and malt in the front, and sherry red fruits and coconut in the back. As the whisky opens up, there are also tons of chocolate strawberry, wood, cinnamon, and orange zest. Compared to the nose, the palate is much less interesting. It begins with a lot of sweet flavors like marzipan, butter, ginger snap cookies, graham crackers, and caramel apples, transitions into baked nuts like pecan pie and candied walnuts, and finishes dry with oak, a light sherry mustiness, clove, allspice, and almond toffee, as well as a trailing heat and walnut waxiness. This whisky is fantastic all around. The sherry and European oak casks are combined, and the quality is outstanding. The flavors are strong and rich for 86 proof. Although Macallan products are generally quite expensive, this is not a letdown."

Exceptional Option

""Honeysuckle, malted barley, and goose berries hit the nose upon uncorking, followed by oak, drenched sorghum, and the aroma of a Sears and Roebuck catalog left on the backseat of a 1968 Plymouth Fury in a July downpour. Denim, pop rocks, crawfish, and birthday candles make up the initial flavor, which is followed by apricots, marshmallows, and milk duds before ending with wisteria, denim, and a grandmother's stained bathrobe. The aftereffects of a hangover are a tightly knit web of salty popcorn, moldy mushrooms, and alka seltzer, which culminates in the sensation of orangutans tapping on one's skull."

Fantastic for daily consumption!

"To a Scotch drinker as a gift. We shared, and over the course of a weekend, we consumed the entire bottle. All you need is a big ice cube. Old Fashioned with bitters and sugar and two cherries on top is also delicious."

Delectable Drinks!

"The Double Cask 12YO has a more delicate profile than the Sherry Oak 12YO, but it's still magnificent. It's the ideal scotch for a late-afternoon cocktail hour!"

Pleasant and Sweet

"I like to drink blended scotch whisky. Although single malt whiskey typically has a robust flavor, this Macallan single malt is actually quite smooth."

Jaden M. (5/5)

It's simple to drink Macallan 12.

"It tastes good. Compared to a lot of other brands, I favor it. I don't know a lot about Scotch Whiskey. It is simple to drink. It's also not the most expensive. It is stronger than it appears."

Macallan Twelve-Year Review

"Always a plus. Smooth and great nose. Because we dislike peat, this is a suitable option for us. Not overly hot like many others, either."
