Reviews
Among my favorite meals
"Loving the 16th Lagavulin! It's a tremendous treat, this. It is "like drinking a wildfire," according to an earlier review, and I wholeheartedly concur. A complete experience, that is. not just a beverage. Although there are finer Scotches available and they all have their own distinct advantages, a bottle of Lagavulin 16 need to be in your cabinet if you enjoy a "experience"!"

I removed my earlier review and admitted my error.
"After having had a second bottle, for some reason, I have a completely different opinion of the product: YES, it is an excellent whiskey with amazing depth and a delightful aroma and flavor. I'm not sure what occurred; either I received a faulty bottle earlier or my palate has changed. I want to be absolutely clear: THIS IS A GREAT WHISKEY with the best nose I have ever encountered. Moreover, the flavor profile is OUTSTANDING. A must purchase, in my opinion!"

A unique delight, but sample it before purchasing a bottle for yourself.
"Islay Scotch isn't for everyone, I know that. Either you'll adore it or you won't. Everyone should find a buddy or a pub that has Lagavuolin 16 to test it first, as doing so will save you money in the long run. Peated Scotch isn't the way to go if you're searching for a "classic" Scotch flavor because peated Scotches like this one are in a different class."

Fantastic flavor, with an even better aftertaste.
"One of my top whiskies. This, in my opinion, is the king of the after-dinner beverages since it is peaty without being overpowering. The finest finale ever, with lingering smoke that will amaze you. The end begins, diminishes, and then mellows into an all-encompassing warmth that lasts forever, similar to a depth charge. Magical."

This is a Necessity, man.
"Before heading to Lake Tahoe, I purchased one bottle. This Islay scotch has a strong peaty and smoky flavor. You merely need to have this scotch to enjoy it in the cold weather—Lake Tahoe's temperature was 32 degrees. It is a monster, but also quite lovely. It smells a tad bacony and smoky to me. Very good. Just wait a minute or two to start drinking once you've swirled the liquid in your glass. I like it."

Deep, potent peat smoke with a long-lasting vanilla and fig aftertaste.
"First of all, not everyone will enjoy this scotch. It's quite distinctive. I prefer my scotch to have a deep, robust, smokey flavor that lingers long after the finish and a note of vanilla and figs. That nicely burned down. On warmer days, I'll replace the water with a little ice cube or a small ice chip in place of the typical few drops of water to open it up. This is my all-time favorite scotch (#Number, not a hashtag). This scotch is not for you if you prefer scotches without a smokey aftertaste."

This whisky is ten times everything about scotch that I enjoy.
""It is obvious that this dram is not for everyone, but it is worth trying. At a recent informal tasting with friends at home, I was the only one who genuinely loved its intensity. This whisky is ten times everything about scotch that I enjoy. ""

You ought to keep a bottle of Lagavulin on hand at all times if you enjoy drinking Islay scotches.
""Lagavulin 16 has been one of my favorite Islay scotches ever since I first discovered it, back when a bottle only cost about $50. Even at roughly $100 per bottle, there are still plenty of other Islay scotches to pick from that I also have on hand, including as Ardbeg, Lahroig, Bruichladdich, Cao Ila, Kilchoman, and Talisker (which technically isn't an Islay but is close enough). ""

My preferred Scotch Single Malt up to this point.
"I doubt I could top the other five-star reviews. The potency of the smokey peat wash was unexpected but definitely appreciated. I've grown to really enjoy it and will repurchase. I'm sure it's not for everyone, but those who give it a chance will come to like it."

To the Venice resident who refuses to jump on the bandwagon
"Like Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, Johnny Black and Lagavulan are two very different people. They are both stunning women, but that is where the similarities end. The Lagavulan gains layers from the peat's smokiness: first, there's the aroma in the nose and flavor on the tongue, then there's the warmth in the mouth, and finally there's the heat in the swallow (I'm becoming quite excited now). Johnny's smoothness has flavor, but it's unmistakably not the same happiness."
