Kings County Distillery's Empire Rye is a straight rye whiskey made grain-to-glass in Brooklyn, New York — one of the few in the category still distilled entirely in the Northeast. The mash leans 80% Danko rye grown in Ancramdale, New York, with 20% English malted barley, double pot-distilled and rested a minimum of three years in charred oak. Expect honeycomb and orange zest on the nose, toffee and dried apricot on the palate, and a finish of maple and anisette. Pour it neat or build a Manhattan to let the spice carry through.
Tasting notes
A nose of rum-soaked raisin, structured oak, maple, vanilla, and cinnamon. The rich and layered palate features further familiar dark-fruit notes of fig and date cake, while an array of baking spices — black pepper, most notably – elegantly balance the sweetness through the finish. With a small addition of water, notes of clove, allspice, and pomegranate become prominent.
