Kim Crawford built its name on Marlborough sauvignon blanc — it's the top-selling New Zealand wine in the US — but this pinot noir shows they don't just do one thing well. Grapes are machine-harvested and destemmed in the field, then cold-soaked for three days before around twelve days on the skins, with part of the blend aging eight months in oak. Expect plum, baking spice, and forest berry aromas, a blackberry-pie palate, and rounded acidity. Pour it alongside barbecued steak or duck fat potatoes.
