"It was excellent for a bourbon with a low strength! In spite of the barrel's absence of an old age statement, it came through strongly. Low proof with a very strong flavor was necessary to counteract the strong woodiness. Had flavors of caramel but wasn't a very sweet bourbon; the rye content in the mash bill is obviously higher. The palate was left with a peppery caramel flavor filling and a dry finish that was slightly salty, woody, and peppery. 5/5 for the situation it was consumed in since it was a great, distinctive bourbon that was ideal for the occasion (i. e. , a smooth shooter with an interesting backstory)."

"I must say that Trey Zoeller, the man behind this incredible bourbon, and I are pals. I remember his thought as he prepared to dispatch the first barrel on its journey. Trey questioned whether it wouldn't mature more effectively if it were transported by riverboat, as it had been in the 1700s, from Bourbon County to New Orleans. Trey answered, "Why not give it a shot and see. " The wisdom of trying something old again has been demonstrated by the passage of time. While I am not familiar with the flavor of bourbon in the 1700s, the fact that it is still incredibly popular tells you everything you need to know. I adore this whiskey!"
