Grace O'Malley Blended Irish Whiskey takes its name from Ireland's 16th-century "Pirate Queen," who commanded ships from her Clew Bay stronghold in County Mayo — the same coastal region where this whiskey's producer is based. The blend brings together grain whiskey aged in ex-bourbon casks and malt whiskey rested in rum barrels, drawn from batches ranging three to ten years old for a rounder, more layered result. Expect caramel, vanilla, and orange zest on the nose, a smooth palate with fruit and light tannin, and a spiced, toasty finish. Pour it neat or over ice to let those notes open up.
Tasting notes
Nose: Oaky vanilla and sweet, nutty caramel meet rich malt, popcorn, and floral spiced orange.
Palate: Dried fruits and honey flapjack, resinous oak with cinnamon and pepper spice.
Finish: Caramelised nuts, wafts of vanilla, sweet, cakey spice, and a gently warming finish.
