Glengoyne earns its name honestly: this Highland distillery runs one of Scotland's slowest distillations, coaxing extra fruit and copper character from every drop. The 12 Year Old inside is made from unpeated, air-dried barley, so there's no smoke to hide behind, just honey, lemon zest and coconut on the nose, toffee apples and toasted oak on the palate, and a long, oily finish trailing coffee. The set pairs the bottle with a Glencairn nosing glass. Pour a dram neat and take your time.
Tasting notes
Nose: Toffee apples, a little acacia honey, nectarine in syrup and spice, supported by toasted barley in the background.
Palate: Over-ripe grapes, honeyed with hints of vanilla, coconut milk and oak spice. Light touches of chocolate ice-cream.
Finish: Long, oily finish with lingering coffee notes.
