Before Menthe-Pastille was a liqueur, it was candy — the mint pastilles popular in 1880s France that pharmacist-turned-distiller Emile Giffard bottled into an elixir at his Angers shop in 1885. Made from essential oils of Mitcham peppermint, it pours crystal clear with a peppery, herbal nose and a crisp, cooling snap on the palate — more bracing spearmint than candy-shop sweetness. Try it over ice, topped with soda, or shaken into a Grasshopper or Stinger.
