Frank August - Small Batch Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey
After being awarded 'Best Rye Whiskey' in the world at the 2024 International Wine & Spirits Competition (IWSC) for their CASE STUDY: 03 | WINTER COVER RYE, release, Frank August knew it was time to introduce a flagship rye for the brand. The result is a permanent core expression, that despite just launching in April '25, has already earned recognition, winning a Gold medal and score of 95/100 at the prestigious 2025 IWSC. More recently, Robb Report named it one of the Best Ryes of the Year So Far, awarding a 97-point rating and praising it as 'In the Pantheon - a trophy for the cabinet.'
As a 'true' small batch (10-15 barrel batches) expression of Kentucky Straight Rye Whiskey, each batch represents a balanced and consistent flavor profile, while highlighting the beautiful nuances of what a 'true' small batch offers. With this release, the brand continues its commitment to produce world class whiskey.
APPEARANCE: Deep amber with copper undertones. In the glass, it forms slow, deliberate legs, suggesting a full-bodied and viscous profile.
NOSE: Opens with a crisp burst of rye spice and dried fruit. Subtle hints of mint and wild honey drift in, followed by layers of dark cocoa and soft oak. With a bit of air, notes of clove and fig gently rise.
PALATE: The initial entry offers an unexpected sweet profile but Kentucky proud rye spices prevail, with cinnamon and oclve playing equal roles. Flavors of dark chocolate and toffee come forward, balanced by a refreshing note of mint . Spice returns at the mid-palate, accented by a bright lift of citrus zest.
FINISH: Medium and graceful. Herbal tones and gentle sweetness unfold slowly, leaving a warm, lasting impression, carrying the flavors through with clarity and structure.
